5th Gear Kick-Off 10

Fifth graders are learning about making healthy choices through the “5th Gear Kids” program. It’s the second year of the wellness program in Aurora Public Schools.

5th grade students and their families recently attended the kickoff celebration to sign up for the program. Denver Broncos mascot Miles,  Colorado Rapids mascot Edson the Eagle and Ronald McDonald also attended.

The goal of “5th Gear Kids” is to prevent obesity, improve academic performance and enhance lifelong health. It teaches 5th graders about energy balance and healthy habits by offering incentives and prizes when they make healthy choices with participating community partners.

"5th Gear Kids" is a partnership between the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Aurora Public Schools and the Cherry Creek School District. “5th Gear” is funded by a grant from the Colorado Health Foundation.
