The United States Tennis Association (USTA) Colorado and the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library recently kicked-off their school outreach for the “Breaking the Barriers” exhibit at Vassar Elementary School. The event offered more than 60 Vassar fourth and fifth graders students the opportunity to learn the history of African-Americans in tennis while taking part in a variety of fun tennis activities.
The Colorado debut of the national “Breaking the Barriers” exhibit is an historical timeline of African-Americans in tennis from the 1800s to the modern area. The free guided field trips are available on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 – 11:30a.m. or 11:30a.m. – 1:00p.m. beginning April 8th through May 20th at the Blair-Caldwell Library.
